2nd Annual Chili Cook Off Was A Resounding Success!

The Second Annual Secord Lake Association Chili Cook-off had very large shoes to fill following the huge success of the first cook-off. Well, the team pulled off a “Win”. Despite less than perfect weather, we had close to 250 people attend the 2023 event at the beautiful Lost Arrow Resort. Including the sponsorships, that were collected throughout the summer and shared with this year’s golf outing, the event raised over $12,800.  This money will be used to support lake improvement projects as we work towards the day that we will see Secord Lake full again. A gallery of photos from the event can be viewed HERE

None of this would be possible without the support and generosity of our lake community. To start with, we would like to thank all the cooks (22 total) that brought their chilis out to be sampled and voted on.

The 2023 Chili Cook-Off winners were:

First place:  Mary Rahn with chili named

     “More Please”

Second place: Chris Ochab with chili named

     “Something My Daughter Will Eat”

Third place:  Dennis Schroth with chili named

    “The Best Chili”

We would also like to thank the lake community and neighborhoods for donating the amazing baskets and items for the silent auction. This year we had 51 items up for bid and brought in over $6400.

Last year neighborhoods were challenged to see who could generate the most money. The winning neighborhood last year was unseated as the champ as West River Drive and Court took in the most money this year at over $1500. The single highest bid item went to East Thendara, West Thendara, and Thendara Ct at $525 for “Cooking it Up on Secord” an Ooni pizza oven and accessories. Thank you to everyone that donated items, prepared baskets, and bid on each item. We hope that everyone enjoyed meeting new neighbors and participating in the friendly competition.

Events like this take a significant amount of planning and behind-the-scenes work. This year’s committee consisted of many of the same people that supported last year’s event.  A special shout out to the Chief Chili organizers Troy, Sherri, and Maddy Gould.  We would like to thank the planning team that which included: Becky Getsoian, Char Hopkins, Rita Lewis, Mary Jasinski, Brent Wilson, Tami Johanson, Tom Pardikes, Chuck Sikora, Sandy Sikora, Phil Dast, Chad Toms, Cindy Pepin, Nancy Morrow and Heidi Schroth.

Special thanks go to Rich Schultz for his audio technical wizardry and Mike Getsoian for keeping the power flowing!  Lastly, we would like to thank the folks at Lost Arrow Resort, especially Sarah and Zac, for being so accommodating and sharing your beautiful venue with us.

Thanks again to all who came out to support our amazing Secord Lake community. We hope that you join us again next year!
